A lot of people have trouble deciding whether to buy Copic Sketch or Copic Ciao markers, especially for that first purchase.  Are Copic Sketch markers really that better quality than Copic Ciao?  Would investing in Copic Sketch now be better in the long run?  Here's some useful information on Copic Sketch and Copic Ciao markers to help you with your purchase.


Both Copic Sketch and Copic Ciao have the super brush tip.

There's a common misconception that only Copic Sketch markers have the super brush tip.  Actually, all Copic Ciao markers have the exact same tip as the Sketch markers.  They both have the super brush tip and chisel tip, so the Sketch isn't that much superior than the Ciao in that aspect.  Both their brush tips are also replaceable, so no need to fret in case you accidentally ruin your nib.  There are replacement nibs available!

You can mix and blend Copic Sketch and Copic Ciao markers together.

Both markers are alcohol based and there should be no problems using both together.  Some great artists out there have collections that make use of both kinds, so you could follow suit as well!

There are more color choices for Copic Sketch markers than Copic Ciao.

Copic Sketch markers have a more oval-shaped barrel whereas Copic Ciao markers have round-shaped barrels.

Copic Sketch markers also have the color codes on the cap that make them just a bit more convenient than Ciao.

Copic Ciao markers are cheaper than Copic Sketch.

Ciao markers are targeted towards beginners and are therefore cheaper than their Sketch counterparts which are ideal for professional artists.  Ciao markers do hold less ink though, so essentially, Copic Sketch markers will last longer before you have to buy the refill.
